Serengeti Preservation Foundation
The Serengeti Preservation Foundation is a registered Tanzanian NGO providing avenues for conservation education and advocacy.
The empowerment and involvement of local people in sustainable development is a vital tool to for conservation And we are doing this through a variety of educational and training programs. Our newest program is the development of the Saravu Farm Training Center, where Maasai women will learn new techniques of dairy and land management.
Our Mission
To build local capacity to monitor and impact conservation in Tanzania. To build a strong coalition of support, advocacy, and funding for the Serengeti ecosystem, the people living around it, and adjacent reserves and protected areas. To provide the funding of development programs that help build a model of sustainable tourism and benefits to local people.
History
SPF was founded in 2013 as a result of increasing threats to the Serengeti ecosystem and to the welfare and livelihoods of people living near it. We saw a need for better education, communication, and programs to benefit local communities.
Our work has included the Serengeti Teachers Environmental Program, radio programs on conservation with FM Loliondo Radio, seminars for journalists, field trips for students into the Serengeti National Park, tree planting, and programs to empower women.
Through this work, we have developed close ties with communities in Loliondo, which has allowed us to expand our work to our new program, launched in 2022.
This program has the potential to make a real difference in helping local people while reducing impacts on land and wildlife.
